Wish You Were Here: London adventures, Florida culture

0

Our globetrotting readers took in sights around the globe this last year, exploring museums in Amsterdam, the dunes of the Sahara and glaciers in Alaska.

This week, a Lafayette father-daughter duo is sharing their adventures in England, while a South Bay couple offers tips from a recent Florida vacation. Read on for details, then find more travel inspiration at www.mercurynews.com/tag/wish-you-were-here/.

Wish You Were Here

ENGLAND: “London in June!” says Lafayette resident Russ Emerson, who took his daughter Taylor to see the sights and “take in a football match in a West End pub. London has a ton to see and do.”

TRAVEL TIP: “Make your list and stick to it. No one is going to see it all in one trip.”

FLORIDA: In March, Olga DeTorres of San Jose and Keith Moe of Cupertino visited St. Augustine, an easy two-hour drive from Orlando. “Along with using the Old Town Trolley to see the sights, we took tours of a distillery and a chocolate factory,” Keith says, and visited Castillo de San Marcos (pictured), built by the Spaniards in 1695.

TRAVEL TIPS: “Carry a small umbrella or rain poncho packet while sightseeing in St. Augustine. When riding the trolley, avoid the first and last rows, as they have the least protection from the rain. Leave your rental car at the hotel. It is easier to get around historic St. Augustine on foot than to try to maneuver a car through narrow crowded streets. Most of the attractions are located within 1½ miles of each other.”
