‘Would be a shame’ - Gary Neville cannot believe the transfer decision of ‘fantastic’ Man Utd target

Manchester United reportedly may test the stance of Brentford over England international striker Ivan Toney with the offer of a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Bees manager Thomas Frank revealed he left the 28-year-old out of his matchday squad yesterday due to the recent transfer interest.

However, it appears the striker will not be staying in the Premier League, with Gary Neville claiming he has heard that Toney could be off to the Saudi Pro League.

The former Man United star cannot believe the decision the fantastic player has made, insisting it would be a shame if he leaves for Saudi because of the money.

“I’d love to see him stay in the Premier League, but I’ve been told he’s maybe going to Saudi Arabia which would be a shame,” Neville said on Sky Sports on Sunday.

“He probably feels he needs to exploit this next contract and feels he hasn’t had the career many have had who play for England at this stage where they’ll have earned big money.”

Brentford are holding out for at least £60 million for Toney, and while the Red Devils are unwilling to pay such a fee for a player out of contract next summer, clubs in Saudi will.

Landing the English striker would have been perfect for Man United, as they could do with additional attacking firepower right now.

They need more options to lead the line apart from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, but it appears manager Erik ten Hag will have to stick to occasionally deploying Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes as a number nine.

Having spent around £155m on Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, it appears the Red Devils will be looking for loan deals due to Profit and Sustainability rules.
