Man Utd in talks to sell young talent for £8.5m, he played 31 minutes vs Man City - report
Manchester United are in talks with Panathinaikos over the potential sale of Facundo Pellistri, according to Daily Mail.
The Uruguay international has been with the Red Devils since 2020, but he has made only 25 appearances in all competitions.
Pellistri played 31 minutes in the Community Shield game against Manchester City, but he was not in the squad to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League curtain-raiser.
Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that Panathinaikos are in advanced talks for Pellistri and Daily Mail claim that the Greek outfit have made a bid of £8.5 million for the 22-year-old.
However, a deal is not agreed yet as other clubs also hold an interest in the right-sided winger.
Pellistri set to leave United on permanent basis
Pellistri has entered the last year of his contract with the Red Devils. The club have the option to keep him for another 12 months, but they are unlikely to triggering the extension clause.
The decision has made to part ways with him. United need to recoup funds as they aim to sign a marquee defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes on August 30.
Panathinaikos have offered £8.5m for Pellistri, but the Red Devils will hope to receive a higher bid. Serie A duo Bologna and Cagliari are also admirers of the former Penarol ace.
Pellistri has been a key figure for Uruguay at the international level since 2022, but his club career has been disappointing. He has yet to make a meaningful contribution.
He has the opportunity to turnaround his fortunes at another club. Panathinaikos could offer him that platform, but other clubs could have a say in the race for Pellistri.
