Newcastle target former Premier League defender as Marc Guehi alternative
Newcastle United have seen four bids get rejected for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi this summer.
The Magpies have reportedly cooled their interest in the England centre-back as per The Daily Mail, who impressed for the Three Lions at the Euros this summer on top of his performances for Palace recently.
The centre-back has attracted attention from some of the biggest clubs in England and the most recent one has been Newcastle, who have made genuine attempts to sign the former Chelsea defender but all their attempts have been rebuffed by Palace.
According Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle could now target a move for another former Chelsea defender in Andreas Christensen, who is currently playing for Barcelona.
The latest bid that Palace rejected from Newcastle was reportedly worth £65m including add-ons.
The Toon Army are losing their patience now and targeting a move for the Barcelona defender, as they do not have long left in signing a new centre-back now.
The transfer window is going to shut down on 30th August and Newcastle’s injuries at the back mean they are desperate to sign a new defender.
The report has mentioned that the player is keen on a move to St James’ Park but Palace are not showing any sign of taking their valuation down for the player.
To prepare for the worst case scenario, the Magpies are looking for alternatives in the market and the Barcelona defender has been identified as one of them.
Newcastle United can use Barcelona defender’s experience
The Spanish giants could consider cashing in on the player as they have struggled financially and they could be open to a sale that will help them balance the books.
The defender has prior experience in the Premier League with Chelsea and his performances were impressive for the Blues, even if they were not consistent enough.
Christensen joined Barcelona two years ago on a free transfer so a potential sale will help Barcelona pocket a profit on him.
