Yellow weather warning, clear day

A new yellow warning for high temperature up to 40C is in place on Monday, issued by the Department of Meteorology.

The warning is valid from 1pm until 4pm.

During the day the weather will clear following dissipation of early morning fog. Temperatures will rise to 40C in the interior, 31C on the west coast, and 33C on the remaining coasts and in the higher mountains. Winds will initially be mainly southerly to south-westerly light, 3 Beaufort, to later turning south- to north-westerly, light to moderate, up to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough.

Overnight will be mostly clear with some locally increased low cloud at times. Light mist or fog is expected to form in the morning hours. Temperatures will drop to 21C inland, 22C on the coast, and 20C in the higher mountains. Winds will be variable and weak, 3 Beaufort, and the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly clear with locally increased clouds on Thursday.

Temperatures will not change appreciably through Wednesday, while on Thursday it will drop slightly, remaining above the average for the season.
