HomeBaked Is The Place To Go For Pre-Match Scan Near Anfield

0

For a lot of people, there is a desire to get a bite to eat before heading into a football stadium. Whether you’re looking a 12.30pm kick-off or a 5.30pm one, the likelihood is that the match is going to be going on at a time when you might ordinarily be looking to have some food.

Even 3pm kick-offs can be difficult on that front, given the feeling from many that it is best to get into the ground early or the desire to have a few drinks prior to taking your seat. In the case of Anfield, many supporters choose not to buy things from the club directly, instead wanting to give their money to companies based in the local area to help them survive.

That obviously then begs the question: where is good to get some food before heading into Anfield and taking your seat to watch the Reds? Obviously the most important question that you’ll need to answer is what sort of food it is that you’re after, given the wealth of choice that exists close to the ground.

There are plenty of food stalls in the ‘fan park’ at Anfield, but they are not necessarily the sorts of places I think most people are going to want to eat at ahead of kick-off, so we’re going to ignore them. I’m also going to assume that you’re not there on a hospitality package, so can’t eat in the likes of the Boot Room.

HomeBaked – 199 Oakfield Road

The number one place that I like to go for a bite to eat before heading in to watch Liverpool play is HomeBaked. The co-operative bakery ensures that the money made from selling the pies, butties, soups and pizzas on offer goes back into the community, so I like to do my bit by getting a pie and a drink from there every time I see the Reds.

The best pie by some distance in my eyes is the chicken & veg one, but it is annoyingly often sold out and I have to make do with the likes of a Shankly or a Scouse. If you’re a fussy eater then you’ll be pleased to know that there are gluten free and veggie options available to you. It’s just the best.

Sing Fong – Walton Breck Road

If you want to do things properly then you’re going to have to go to Sing Fong at some point. As the name suggests, this is a Chinese takeaway that is family run and offers good value for money. The fact that it is located so close to Anfield makes it something of a Scouse institution, with meals coming with a side of rice or chips.

If you want to get something from here then you could do with arriving early, given the fact that the queue is normally out of the door and halfway down Walton Breck Road the closer you leave it to kick-off. That tells you everything you need to know in terms of its popularity with Liverpool supporters.

Georgie Porgies – 220 Walton Breck Road

If a Chinese doesn’t take your fancy and you want something a little bit more substantial than a pie, you might want to head to Georgie Porgies. It is a cafe offering all of the sorts of things that you’d expect from such a place, so is especially good if you’ve got a ticket for a 12.30pm kick-off and want some decent breakfast.

If you’re there later, though, then the burgers are nice or you could opt to be a little bit healthier with a wrap or jacket potato. There are hot and cold drinks available, with the option to eat in or takeaway depending on what you’re up to. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and feeling peckish.

Bold Street

There will be a desire of some people to have a bite to eat in town before heading out to Anfield. Obviously that doesn’t fit in with the ‘Near Anfield’ title that I gave the blog, but the city centre will be awash with Liverpool supporters in the build up to the game so there’s no point in pretending that it isn’t somewhere you might want to get some scran.

If that is the position that you find yourself in then you can absolutely depend on Bold Street. Whilst you might need to book if you want to go somewhere specific, the best thing to do is to just have a wander up the road and see which of the numerous excellent options takes your fancy.
