Pundit predicts how much money Spurs would want to sell Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero is now rated as one of the very best centre-backs in the world, and he’s a wanted man. But how much would it cost for Spurs to let him go?

Big money needed to sign Romero

The Tottenham vice-captain is a key player for Ange Postecoglou‘s side, is a regular for Argentina at international level, and appears to be getting better all the time.

So, it figures then that top clubs are looking at Romero and hoping to snare him away from the Lilywhites. But, according to Alan Hutton, it would probably cost any suitor at least £70m to bag the defender.

He told Football Insider: “I think the fee would be huge. If you think about what Crystal Palace want for Marc Guehi, around £70 million, I know he’s young and he’s had a brilliant Euros, I really like him as a player.

“I know Romero can be rash at times, that is what it is, but I think for what he does, his recovery tackles, he just suits Tottenham. I think they’d be talking about that same mark [£70 million] and if they don’t hit that I don’t think they’ll want to sell.

“He’s such an important player for Tottenham next to Micky van de Ven, I think they complement each other. To lose Romero at this stage of the transfer window going into the first game of the season would be an absolute nightmare for the manager.”

Spurs could lose Romero in the future

While Tottenham look likely to keep hold of Romero this summer, it is thought they could face a bigger battle to stave off interest from Real Madrid next year (GiveMeSport).

According to Spurs insider, Paul O’Keefe, the club managed to scare Madrid away this year with a valuation of £150m placed on Romero’s head (The Last Word on Spurs).

Spurs Web Opinion

If we ever sold Cristian Romero for £70m, given the state of the market these days, I think fans would be incredibly disappointed and angry at letting him go so cheap.

Considering he’s one of the best defenders in the world, you’d be looking at over £100m for Romero, surely.
