Report: Spurs battling three European clubs for South American defender
According to various reports, Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing a late deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, whose future at the German club is thought to be in doubt.
Piere Hincapie has been linked with Spurs once again
El Comercio claim that Piero Hincapie is now looking for a new club as he is keen to get regular game time, which he was unable to do at Leverkusen last season.
The report states that Tottenham and Liverpool are both alert to the 22-year-old’s situation, with the Premier League duo thought to be facing competition from Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
The same four clubs are mentioned as the leading contenders for Hincapie’s signature by Studio Futbol, who also talk up the possibility of the defender leaving Bay Arena before the end of the month.
It is explained that Xabi Alonso has spoken with the Ecuadorian international about his future over recent days and has ‘asked him to stay’.
Hincapie faces a decision over his Bayer Leverkusen future
Amidst interest from the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool, Hincapie is now expected to make a decision over the coming days on whether to remain at Leverkusen or to move elsewhere.
Hincapie was part of the Leverkusen squad which yesterday won the DFL Supercup following a penalty shoot-out win over Stuttgart.
Spurs Web Opinion
Signing an all-action midfielder appears to be Tottenham’s priority at the moment. While I can see Spurs bringing another defender through the door, it will likely be a relatively low-cost squad option rather than a big name like Hincapie.
