Blood proteins may help to track the pathological progression of Lewy's body disease
New research suggests that two proteins, amyloid- and phosphorylated tau, the key proteins of Alzheimer's disease, are detected in blood once symptoms have started in Lewy's body diseases, such as Parkinson's. They also found that monitoring the neurofilament light chain protein can detect Lewy body diseases prior to symptom development. The findings suggest a means of identifying potential patients and a new target for intervention.
