Mariners Game #124 Preview: 8/17, SEA @ PIT
At least it’s Luis Castillo Day
Remember the last time Castillo took the mound? He eviscerated one of the better lineups in the league on Sunday Night Baseball. It was pretty cool.
It also feels like a thousand years ago after the week the Mariners have had. But every time a Mariners starter takes the mound in 2024, there’s a decent chance he does something special. The current misery doesn’t make that any less true. So today’s game is still worth watching. And besides, breakfast baseball is always a treat.
Lineups
The Pirates are starting lefty Bailey Falter, so Josh Rojas will start on the bench, which is probably just as well considering how painful the foul ball off his knee looked last night. Cal Raleigh also gets the day off, with Garver starting behind the plate.
For Pittsburgh, they’ll be without Andrew McCutchen, who’s been flirting with an IL stint for knee pain that he seemed to reaggravate last night. Oniel Cruz also had to leave the game with an injury and is not in the field this afternoon, but he will at least DH.
