Australia To Host England In One-Off Test At MCG In 2027 To Commemorate 150 Years Of Test Cricket

New Delhi: To commemorate 150 years of Test cricket, Australia will host England in a one-off Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2027. The first Test match was played between Australia and England in 1877 which the former won. Australia had also won the Centenary Test match in 1977. MCG was chosen as the venue for the special Test match after Cricket Australia and state governments held a meeting to lock a seven-year staging agreements for their regular Tests.

It was also decided that MCG will continue its tradition of hosting the annual Boxing Day Test. The New Year’s match will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground as usual. The Adelaide Oval has been allocated to host the ‘Christmas Test’ each December starting from the 2025-26 season.

The Perth Stadium got the rights to host the first men’s Test of the summer until the 2026-27 season. It is also being learnt that India and England have conformed tours in the four years post-2027. The current Future Tours Programme (FTP) is only inked until early 2027.
