'Despicable Me' Director Talks Possible Live-Action Movies, Reveals if We'll Ever See 'Real' Minions
A director behind the Despicable Me franchise opened up about creating live-action adaptations of the animated movies.
Chris Renaud directed the first two movies in the series and returned for the recently released Despicable Me 4.
In a new interview, Chris was asked if there were any conversations about following in the footsteps of Disney and turning the franchise into live-action movies. Doing so would entail creating “real” Minions.
Is that a possibility?

“God, I hope not. That’s my answer,” Chris told Film Hounds.
He continued, saying, “I mean if there were conversations like that, I haven’t been privy to them. But for me, what defines the world is that it is animated and it allows us to get away with what we get away with. Like locking a minion in the vending machine, or you know, blowing up Gru when he attacks Vector. These are really cartoon ideas, like what would have been in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.”
“It just becomes something completely different if you do a live-action version,” Chris opined. “For me personally, not very appealing. But again, who knows what can happen but that’s my personal feeling about it.”
