DraftKings drops plan for NY surcharge on bets
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The sports betting website DraftKings is changing course after it proposed an extra charge for New York gamblers.
The site had announced plans to charge a 3 to 5 percent surcharge for New Yorkers in order to offset the state's 51 percent tax rate on winning bets. In a statement, a DraftKings spokesperson attributed the reversal to customer feedback on the plan.
“We always listen to our customers and after hearing their feedback we have decided not to move forward with the gaming tax surcharge. We are always committed to delivering the best value in the industry to our loyal customers.”
