Power restored to central Topeka neighborhood after nearly two-day outage
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A central Topeka neighborhood was without power for nearly two full days in the wake of Wednesday's storm.
According to Evergy's outage map, the outage for the neighborhood around Fillmore and Eighth Avenue was first reported at 10:36 p.m. on Aug. 14. It was restored around 5 p.m. Aug. 16.
Ruth Hilleland-Thompson lives in an apartment complex in the area. 27 News spoke with Hilleland-Thompson Friday afternoon before power was restored. She said she has a medical condition that requires her to be on oxygen, which she can't get without power.
"My oxygen levels are dropping every day, and this is my biggest concern," Hilleland-Thompson said
Hilleland-Thompson said she was promised the power would be restored more than once.
"I've called [Evergy] more than a dozen times, and all they keep telling me is that they're working on it," Hilleland-Thompson said. "They can't tell me exact time. But they promised last night it was gonna get done but it didn't get done."
