Wilson Odobert joined Tottenham from Burnley

Spurs’ signing of Wilson Odobert caught the supporters and media off guard, with the Lilywhites announcing out of the blue on Friday they had struck a deal with Burnley for the Frenchman’s transfer.

According to reports, Tottenham agreed a deal worth an initial £25m with an extra £5m in potential add-ons, with the 19-year-old signing a five-year deal with the North London club (Football.London).

The teenager arrives at Spurs on the back of an impressive breakthrough season for Burnley in the Premier League, catching the eye with his enterprising attacking play for the Clarets last season despite their eventual relegation.

While Odobert might not be a guaranteed start right from the off given the competition for places in the Tottenham Hotspur first-team squad, his potential is undoubtedly high, with Bridge pointing out that the Burnley fans are not happy to have lost the wide-man.

Odobert could feature for Spurs against Everton

The journalist told Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show: “You only have to read Burnley’s X or Twitter and the reaction to his departure, they are saying that Spurs have got a very good deal.

“Spurs fans are wondering whether he’s going to be a part of the first-team or if it will take him a while. I’m told he will be under consideration straight away for next week against Everton. It’s come a bit too early for Leicester on Monday while his work permit gets sorted, but it shouldn’t be an issue.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A lot of the same people who labelled Tottenham’s signing of Micky van de Ven over Edmond Tapsoba as a move lacking ambition are making the same noises on social media about Odobert.

The 19-year-old is clearly a good stylistic fit for us and we should wait to see how he does before judging the deal. Ange would certainly fancy his chances of getting the best out of the youngster.
