Passenger reveals why all passengers should take their shoes off on a flight – and sparks furious debate

A PASSENGER has revealed why everyone on a flight should take their shoes off while in the air – and it’s sparked a very heated debate.

The traveller, whose identity has not been revealed, took to the “unpopular opinion” thread on Reddit to explain why they needed to remove their footwear while flying.

They posted a comment under the heading of: “Taking your shoes off on an airplane is the only way to fly.”

The poster wrote: “At least if you run hot like me. I know a lot of people get cold on planes, but some of us are the opposite.

“The only air movement available is aimed at your face, and my legs and feet get uncomfortably warm.”

It proved to be highly controversial with people weighing in with their own take on things.

One person was definitely dead-set against taking your shoes off, writing: “Truly s**t take, bravo.

“The only thing worse than being crammed in a tight space with strangers and no airflow is when they decide you should have to smell their feet as well.”

Another agreed it was a bad idea: “It solves your personal problem but it creates one for every single person around you. Selfish and dumb. What a combo.”

And a third wrote: “Very inconsiderate.”

Some though weren’t entirely against the move, writing: “So long as your feet don’t stink.”

While another said: “It’s ok if they don’t stink.”

Someone else came up with a compromise, adding: “I just wear sandals, no need to even take them off.”

Elsewhere, a travel expert has explained why you should always wear red on a flight.

While red might be the fashionable choice to opt for, there are some items of clothing the experts recommend not to wear on a plane journey.

The right outfit selection can make all the difference to a person’s comfort on their flight, yet a lot of people aren’t aware of it.

Be it the wrong trousers, or a poor choice of footwear, passengers make simple mistakes that could leave them struggling to settle in their seats, especially on long-haul journeys.

That’s why travel experts at Conde Nast Traveller revealed how they “dress strategically” to make sure their clothes aren’t stopping them from getting comfortable.

Firstly, they recommend not wearing “stiff jeans” during lengthy journeys.

Old sweatpants are also a no-go, even if they’re comfortable.

Instead, passengers should look into wearing leggings and a jacket, or loungewear sets.

The other clothing mistake that passengers regularly make on flights is to wear trainers, or shoes that don’t slip on and off easily.

In particular, footwear with laces on are fiddly, especially for people who remove their shoes during flights.

A “lightweight slip-on shoe” is Conde’s shoe of choice for long-haul flights.

Sun Travel’s resident flight attendant explained exactly how people should dress when travelling through an airport.

They said: “You should avoid belts, jackets with complicated buckles or zips and shoes that are hard to remove.

“You want to get through the gates as soon as possible, or everyone else in the line will become very infuriated with you.

“Make sure you pack your bag easily as well, with electronic items and toiletries on top, so they’re easy to remove.

“Passengers will hate you if you spend ages unpacking and re-packing your luggage.”

Meanwhile, this is the best seat to pick if you want to get comfortable during long distance flights.
