With no international cricket for India until the series again Bangladesh in September, the right hander is set to feature for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament in Tamil Nadu. He is set to play under the leadership of Sarfaraz Khan after asking the Mumbai selectors not to change the leadership.
Playing in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament will give Suryakumar a bit of red-ball practice before the Test series against Bangladesh as he wants to play all three formats for India. “I want to play for India in all three formats,” Suryakumar told TOI. “Playing in Buchi Babu will give me good practice for the red-ball tournaments this season,” he added.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar, who was named India’s T20I captain in the series against Sri Lanka, led the side to a 3-0 whitewash against the Islanders. However, he wasn’t named in the ODI series that followed. The last time Suryakumar played a domestic match for Mumbai was in 2023 Duleep Trophy. In 82 first-class matches so far, Suryakumar has scored 5628 runs and averages 43.62 with 29 fifties and 14 hundreds.
