New Iberia man dies, passenger injured in Saturday crash
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A single-vehicle crash Saturday morning claimed the life of a 22-year-old New Iberia man and severely injured a passenger, Louisiana State Police said.
The crash resulted in the death of Ridge Belaire.
State police said in a news release that Belaire was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe south on LA 347. The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. near Alexandre Hebert Road in St. Martinville.
"For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet exited the roadway to the left, entered a ditch, and overturned causing Belaire to be ejected," state police said.
Belaire was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
A passenger of the vehicle was taken to an area hospital for treatment of severe injuries. State police said Saturday that the passenger's restraint use is still be investigated.
Routine toxicology samples were taken for analysis, police said.
