Red Sox Infield Prospect All Smiles Following Scary Incident

A scary incident involving a Boston Red Sox prospect unfolded during the final inning of the Portland Sea Dogs game.

Double-A Portland was down 12-8 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Blaze Jordan was the leadoff man seeking to help his club come back at Hadlock Field. But Altoona Curve pitcher Eddy Yean drilled the first baseman in the head; fans and commentary initially thought he got hit in the helmet. After being looked at by training staff, Jordan left the game, and Tyler Miller replaced him. The Sea Dogs fell short Friday night.

Jordan took to social media and posted a picture of the aftermath of the incident where it appeared the ball nearly hit his left eye.

"Baseball is rough sometimes," Jordan posted on X on Friday. "97 to the face didn't feel too great, but all part of Gods plan! Be back soon!"

Fans were relieved to see the 21-year-old in good spirits. Friday's incident did add another sour note to Jordan's season as this is the second injury he suffered after fracturing his finger in May.

Jordan was Boston's 26th-ranked prospect according to Sox Prospects, and he had seven home runs and 51 RBIs off a .701 OPS after Friday's game.
