President Nikos Christodoulides on Friday congratulated all Cypriot athletes who participated in the Paris Olympic Games.

The best moment for Cyprus at the Olympics took place on Wednesday, when dinghy sailor Pavlos Kontides won a silver medal, finishing second in Marseille to secure overall second place behind Australian Matt Wearn.

Kontides’ silver medal is the second of his career, having achieved the same feat at the 2012 London games.

Christodoulides extended his congratulations to the entire national delegation, including coaches and support staff, “who represented the Republic of Cyprus with distinction at the highest level of international sport.”

He praised them for their dedication to the spirit of fair play, earning the respect and admiration of all.

He then reiterated his commitment to meet the athletes soon, as he had promised during his visit to the Olympic village, not only to congratulate each of them personally but also to discuss their concerns and explore ways to further elevate Cypriot sports.

Christodoulides stressed that both he and the government are committed to supporting the athletes, “who serve as role models for the younger generation and exemplify dedication and continuous effort towards improvement and excellence.”

“We are proud of all of you,” he concluded.
