New Delhi: Former Pakistan fast bowling legend Shoaib Akhtar applauded Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, for calling Arshad Nadeem also her child after the Javelin event at the Paris Olympics 2024 on August 8. Nadeem secured the gold medal, narrowly surpassing Neeraj Chopra, who claimed the silver. After the event, a heartfelt comment from Neeraj’s mother resonated with many and won hearts.

Neeraj’s mother expressed her happiness at seeing her son win the silver medal and touched hearts by referring to Nadeem as her own child too.

“We are happy with the silver. The one who got the gold (Arshad Nadeem) is also my child,” Saroj Devi said.

This remark received widespread praise from both Indian and Pakistani fans, with Akhtar being the latest to add his appreciation. On his official X account, the former pacer expressed his admiration, noting that the comment was truly remarkable and could only have come from a mother’s heart.

“Gold jis ka hai, wo bhi hamara he larka hai”. Yeh baat sirf aik maa he keh sakti hai. Amazing. (The person who won gold, he is also our son. This can only be said by a mother. Amazing.),” tweeted Akhtar.

Neeraj Chopra delivered a remarkable throw of 89.45 meters, the second-best of his career, as he aimed to defend his men’s javelin Olympic gold in Paris. However, his effort wasn’t enough to surpass Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters, clinching the gold. This historic moment on Thursday, August 7, marked Pakistan’s first-ever track and field gold medal at the Games.

This outcome also reversed the order from last year’s World Championships, where Neeraj claimed gold and Nadeem took silver.

Neeraj’s Series: X, 89.45, X, X, X, X

Arshad’s Series: X, 92.97m, 88.72m, 79.40m, 84.87m, 91.79m

Anderson Series: 84.70m, 87.87m, X, 88.54m, 87.38m, 81.83m
