Despite her best efforts to stay up, the 30-year-old stumbled forward and landed directly into next hurdle – slapping the ground in frustration afterwards.
The star chose not to finish the race, registering a DNF.
Sember, who was born in the USA but competes for Team GB, was crestfallen in an interview with the BBC after the race.
Fighting back tears, she said: “I’m okay, I’m really really sad.
“I’m just a little bit frustrated, because I have been training so hard and I’m ready. I’m sad.”
She added: “I felt like I was coming up to the hurdles very quickly and I just lost my control unfortunately. It’s frustrating.

“I was very ready. It’s just really really hard, it’s a little hard to take in, but I’m trusting God with it.”
It’s Sember’s third Olympic games, after suffering heartbreak with a fourth places finish in the 2016 Rio games and failing to make the final in Tokyo.
