Logan Paul has never shied away from controversy. The 29-year-old YouTuber and wrestler from Westlake, Ohio, has built up a huge following in recent years. Some of his business ventures, including Prime energy drinks and the blockchain game CryptoZoo, have also landed him in legal battles, however.

A closer look at CryptoZoo

CryptoZoo was cofounded by the YouTuber and launched in 2021. It was designed to be a "really fun game that makes you money," Paul previously said. Its gameplay included cryptocurrency and NFTs.

The project received millions of dollars worth of funding from investors but failed to materialize.

As a result of its failure, Paul is facing lawsuits from investors in CryptoZoo. He has also launched his own legal action connected to criticism of the game; in June, he said he would sue fellow YouTuber Coffeezilla, whose real name is Stephen Findeisen, for defamation.

Paul's lawsuit followed a YouTube docuseries by Findeisen in 2022, which investigated CryptoZoo. In the first part of the series, Findeisen said he thought the game was a "scam." That video alone received over 10 million views.

Despite Paul's initial defensiveness, he apologized on X for his own failings over the game. At the start of the year, he promised partial refunds to those who bought CryptoZoo NFTs, if they agreed not to sue him.

Prime problems

Paul is a cofounder of the Prime energy drink range. Its bottle supplier, Refresco, recently announced it was suing the company for $68 million after accusing Prime of breaching a 2023 contract.

Despite Prime receiving a large amount of hype in 2022 and 2023, the brand faced a "fading social media buzz" in 2024, a Refresco lawyer said in the suit.

The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee has also sued Prime, accusing the brand of mismarketing itself as affiliated with the Games and Team USA.

The controversy doesn't end there

Paul received backlash after it was reported in January 2023 that his former pet pig, Pearl, was found by rescuers in a field with a life-threatening uterus infection and wounded ears.

Pearl used to appear in Paul's videos before she was rehomed by Paul when the YouTuber moved to Puerto Rico.

He said the pig had then been rehomed again without his knowledge before she was abandoned. The Gentle Barn sanctuary, which took Pearl in, said the animal had been "irresponsibly rehomed" but that "she is now safe with us."

Paul also faced heavy criticism in 2019 after he said on his "Impaulsive" podcast that he intended to "go gay" for a month as a New Year's Resolution.

Paul had previously faced numerous calls for his removal from YouTube after he posted a video showing the purported body of a suicide victim in Aokigahara Forest, Japan.

He later said the backlash had led to him becoming a better person.

The Aokigahara video also led to another lawsuit in 2020 by Planeless Pictures. The company, which said it had agreed for Paul to write and produce a movie, accused him of recklessly posting the video despite the impact it could have on the movie project.

Planeless Pictures said that after the Aokigahara incident, it was forced to suspend its contract with Paul.

Paul and Findeisen did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment.
