Marin and Todd Advance at US Women’s Amateur

TULSA, Okla. – Razorbacks Maria Jose Marin and Kendall Todd each won their opening Round of 64 matches at the 124th USGA U.S. Women’s Amateur and advance to tomorrow’s Round of 32 at historic Southern Hills Country Club.

Marin, seeded first after winning stroke play and ranked 15th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), will face one of the top amateurs in the world, Rachel Kuehn, in the Round of 32. Kuehn, seeded 32nd after stroke play, won her opening match 7&5. She is ranked eighth in WAGR and was a four-time All-American at Wake Forest.

Todd will face Gabby Woods in the Round of 32.

Thursday’s action will include the Rounds of 32 and 16. Once again, GOLF Channel will provide live coverage from 2-5 pm (CT).

Marin defeated Leigha Devine, 6&5. In fact, Marin only lost one hole, the par-3, 8th, to cruise to the win. The Razorback All-American took an early 3-up lead by winning holes 2, 3 and 5. After Devine won the 8th hole, Marin bounced back by winning holes 9, 11, 12 and 13 to take the commanding 6-up lead with just five holes to play.

Todd, a rising senior with the Razorbacks, took down Lauren Calderon, 4&3, in the opening Round of 64. Todd won the first hole with a birdie. However, Calderon won holes 3, 4 and 5 to take a 2-up lead. Todd bounced back by winning holes 7, 8 and 9 to regain a 1-up advantage. Calderon answered by winning the 10th hole to square the match. After the two tied the 11th hole, Todd won holes 12, 13, 14 and 15 to secure the 4&3 win. Todd won the 12th with a par, the 13th with an eagle, the 14th with a par and the 15th with a bogie to close out the match.

In other action for the Razorbacks, rising junior Reagan Zibilski dropped her match, 3&2, to Angela Heo and rising senior Cory Lopez suffered a 4&2 setback to Latanna Stone.
