A free lecture that explores the topic of modern architecture in Stratford, Ontario, will take place at the Stratford Festival on August 17, 2024.

The conversation, which will take place at the Tom Patterson Theatre in Stratford, Ontario, “will delve into the artistic intricacies and meticulous care required to craft some of the world’s most extraordinary structures” according to the Stratford Festival’s website.

The talk will feature moderator and actor Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah, architect Brigitte Shim, Hariri Pontarini Architects associate Lindsay Hochman, and retired architect Robert Lemon.

Stratford’s modern architectural history dates back to the opening of the Festival Theatre, designed by Robert Fairfield with Tanya Moiseiwitsch in 1957, and the winner of a Massey Medal for Architecture in 1958. The Stratford Festival’s latest building, the Tom Patterson Theatre, was designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects. Shim-Sutcliffe’s Morris Tower House, located in downtown Stratford, Ontario, is now owned and managed by Robert Lemon as a luxury vacation rental.

“In 1957, the Festival Theatre marked a watershed moment by introducing modern architecture to the realm of Canadian public buildings. Fast forward six decades and Siamak Hariri’s groundbreaking design for the Tom Patterson Theatre once again captivated the global stage,” reads the Stratford Festival’s website.

The talk will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
