Williamson County shelter holds 'Olympic' event; how your city can win gold

0

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) said it would hold a community challenge starting Thursday until Sunday at 6 p.m.

WCRAS called the four-day event “The Dog Lifesaving Olympics,” and said points would be awarded to your city for helping the shelter pets.

According to WCRAS, points can be earned in three ways:

  • Adopt: Bring home a new furry family member.
  • Foster: Provide a temporary, loving home for a dog in need.
  • Doggy Day Out: Spend quality time with a shelter dog and return them to the shelter at day’s end.

“We are thrilled to combine the excitement of the Olympics with the joy of helping our shelter pets find loving homes,” says Misty Valenta, Animal Services Director. “Every adoption, foster, and Doggy Day Out not only saves lives but also strengthens a compassionate community spirit. We can't wait to celebrate the incredible cities and their dedication to lifesaving.”

At the end of the competition, the shelter said it would tally up the points, and announce the top-performing cities.

“The winning cities will be honored for their outstanding efforts in providing new homes and temporary care for shelter dogs, showcasing the power of community in action,” WCRAS said.
