Two transnational fugitives arrested in Ulster County
ULSTER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Ulster County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) reported the arrest of two people from Ireland back in July following an extensive investigation. Kathleen McCarthy, 35, and Oliver Boswell, 36, are reportedly wanted by the City of London Police.
On July 17, deputies found and pulled McCarthy over during a traffic stop after it was discovered that the Ford F150 she was driving had been reported stolen from a local Enterprise Rent-A-Car. She was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of stolen property.
The UCSO was contacted by the Department of Homeland Security after hearing of the arrest, who shared that McCarthy and her husband, Boswell, were allegedly part of a transnational crime organization that was wanted for defrauding victims of more than £3 million. Further investigation by the two agencies resulted in Boswell and other members of the organization being located and arrested in Ulster County.
McCarthy and Boswell were transferred into the custody of the Enforcement and Removal Operations unit (ERO) on July 18. The couple faces 19 counts of money laundering in the United Kingdom. They remain in the custody of the ERO pending removal proceedings.
