New details in Sequoyah County double murder case

SEQUOYAH COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) — On June 14, El Reno officers responded to a report of an unattended death.

El Reno Police confirmed the victim died from a gunshot wound. The man was identified as 56-year-old Phillip Emerson.

Asst. Chief Kirk Dickerson from El Reno Police Department said the victim and the suspect knew each other.

The suspect is 50-year-old Stacy Lee Drake from Alabama.

"We will have witnesses that will come by, I'm sure, to offer testimony at some point during the legal process," Asst. Chief Dickerson says.

Investigators say after shooting Emerson, Drake stole his car and drove to Eastern Oklahoma.

While there, court documents out of Sequoyah County reveal the suspect shot and killed two women in Gans, Oklahoma.

They were later identified as Tara Underwood and Taylor Sharp.

Underwood's sister says, "Tara was so fun, she was the life of the party in school. The it girl. Everyone knew who she was."

Drake was finally captured days later just across the state line in Arkansas.

Asst. Chief Dickerson told News 4, "The district attorney has decided to try that case in another county. And so that case has been moved to that county for prosecution."

Documents show Drake is now charged with three counts of first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

"Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency on that case currently, due to the number of victims and the geographical areas that were involved," Asst. Chief Dickerson adds.

News 4 reached out to OSBI for new information on the case. They were unavailable to comment.

Drake is also charged in a fourth murder in Alabama.

That one happened in May, just weeks before his alleged killing spree in Oklahoma.
