Video: Steve Jobs' $130M Yacht Crashes Into Another Luxury Boat

0

The Mediterranean is filled with massive superyachts like the Venus, a $130 million ship commissioned by Steve Jobs before his death. But money can't buy everything, including safety from other ships.

Video began circulating on social media showing Venus apparently colliding with Lady Moura, another gargantuan boat with a similarly hefty price tag. Jobs never lived to see Venus himself, so today it's owned by his wife, philanthropist and investor Laurene Powell Jobs. It all happened off the coast of Naples, Italy last month.

"On 22 July while at anchor, Venus came into contact with Lady Moura, which was also anchored. No family was on board, only crew. The wind changed very suddenly, picking up from a breeze to 55 knots over the course of a few minutes," a statement regarding the matter read, per Boat International. "Neither boat dragged anchor, though the other boat was on a chain double the length expected in the depth of water they were in. Both captains were in discussion immediately following the incident about minor repairs needed."

The original video of the incident was shared by Mexican business magnate Ricardo Salinas, who owns the $125 million Lady Moura. In the video's caption, Salinas stated that the Venus crew was at fault for what happened.

"I would like to know what the captain and crew were doing that they didn't see a yacht the size of mine in front of me," he said. "Good thing nothing but a scratch happened, but it's a big scratch that's going to [cost] a lot to fix."

Salinas, needless to say, wasn't too fazed: "We're going to continue enjoying our vacation."
