Millions of children in Afghanistan to receive Polio Vaccination next week
The organization known as “Polio-Free Afghanistan” has recently announced that a new polio vaccination campaign will begin next week in various parts of the country.
Today, Thursday, August 8, this organization posted on social media that the campaign is scheduled to start on Saturday of the coming week in several regions of Afghanistan.
Abdul Quddus Baryalai, the head of the Polio Eradication Operational Center at the Ministry of Public Health, told the media that this campaign will last for four days in Herat, Uruzgan, Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, and Nimroz.
According to officials at the Ministry of Public Health, during this campaign, 4.2 million children under the age of five are expected to be vaccinated.
This comes as positive cases of polio have been continuously rising in southern Afghanistan over the past few months.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries that have yet to eradicate polio.
The ongoing efforts to combat polio in Afghanistan highlight the significant public health challenges the country faces.
The planned vaccination campaign aims to immunize millions of young children, a critical step in controlling the disease’s spread.
However, the persistent increase in polio cases underscores the urgent need for sustained and comprehensive health interventions. As Afghanistan and Pakistan continue their fight against polio, their success will be crucial in the global effort to eradicate this debilitating disease.
