Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 moved in Lok Sabha

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha. The bill proposes changes to the Waqf Act, 1995, including ensuring representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims in waqf boards. It also proposes a separate board of Auqaf for Bohras and Aghakhanis. However, Congress MP K C Venugopal and Congress' Hibi Eden oppose the bill, citing potential infringement on property rights and undue interference in religious endowments administration.
