Fast Laps on the Racetrack Fit the Comfort Zone for Andrew Massey
Even though he’s worn several different hats during his motorsports career, Andrew Massey’s commitment to local racing has never waned.
While he is currently running the Corner 5 Racing No. 83 machine with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, Andrew Massey’s resume also includes time in the provincial karting ranks, Ontario Legend Cars and Bone Stocks on asphalt, as well as Canadian Modifieds and Dirt Thunder Stocks at Brighton Speedway. The 44-year-old who is originally from Bowmanville and now resides in Port Hope, Ontario says he’s enjoyed each of the different cars he’s had the chance to drive.
“I’ve been a racing fan for as long as I can remember,” said Andrew Massey, who graduated in 2001 from the now discontinued radio broadcasting program at Loyalist College in Belleville. “Even during the pandemic, I was looking for a ‘racing fix’ and participated in an iRacing group with some of the motorsports friends I’d met over the years.”
Massey says he’s enjoying running with the drivers who are currently chasing dates with the OMRS group and is looking at the possibility of trying his hand a couple of OSCAAR events before too much longer. Another area of focus for the racer – who now works as a police officer – is to serve as a coach and mentor for his 11 and 13-year-old sons Bryce and Rhys who are polishing their racing skills in the karting ranks on asphalt at Mosport and on the dirt at Brighton.
As for his long-term racing goals, Andrew Massey says he’d like to pick-up another feature race win at Peterborough Speedway. He won the first 4-Fun/Bone Stock he ever ran at the track back in 2011, but despite running in several different classes and winning multiple qualifying events since then, it remains his only main event visit to victory lane.
An old-school racer at heart, Massey is always quick to offer a hand to fellow competitors. It’s a trait he knows will usually come back to his own team in the shop or at the racetrack. He’s thankful to his father Don, wife Jarah and brother Chris for their help on the car and for the continued support marketing partners including Great Northern Storage and Cornervue Contracting bring to the team throughout the season.

The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series will once again be part of the Friday, October 11th line-up at the Autumn Colours Classic.
