'Black Panther' Actress Connie Chiume Dies at Age 72
Connie Chiume has sadly passed away.
The South African actress, who played a tribal leader in Black Panther and the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, died on Tuesday, Aug. 6, following a “period of illness,” her family shared in a statement. She was 72-years-old.
Keep reading to find out more…“The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the International Acclaimed award winning actress Connie, Chiume,” the first statement on Instagram read. “Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City City Hospital [in Johannesburg, South Africa] on the 6th August 2024. The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period.”
In a follow-up post, the Connie Chiume Foundation wrote, “The Chiume family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for all the messages of support and condolences during this difficult time, as they cope with the loss of their mother, Connie.”
“Mam’ Connie passed away on 6 August 2024 at Garden City Hospital after a period of illness,” the statement continued. “Her children would like to express their deep appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff who provided exceptional care during her stay.”
