Post-election audit starts in Kansas
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The audit for 2024 Primary Election has started across the Sunflower State.
KSNT 27 News was there as the State began the formal process on Wednesday, Aug. 7. Election workers randomly selected races to audit in each of the state's 105 counties. That includes one federal, one statewide and one local race in each county. This process requires counting the votes by hand, regardless of the method of voting, in one% of all precincts.
Whitney Tempel, the Kansas Secretary of State's Director of Communications, told 27 News about the next steps in the process.
"We receive that information now that we are doing," Tempel said. "We'll send it to the counties and then from there, the counties will draw their 1% of their precincts to be audited."
The audit is done after every election to promote the reliability of results. Race results will be official by Sept. 1.
