MAGA-hatted January 6 rioter brought sword, whip and stun gun to Capitol: report

A California woman charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol brought a diverse collection of weapons with her to the insurrection — including a sword, a whip and a stun gun, reported The Associated Press, citing the FBI.

According to Michael Kunzelman, the FBI affidavit alleged that Kennedy Lindsey, who was arrested in Los Angeles in July, "had a short sword, a steel tactical whip, a collapsible baton, pepper spray, a butterfly knife and a flashlight taser in her possession when a U.S. Secret Service officer searched her backpack."

Pictures of her at the Capitol showed her sporting a red MAGA hat and a tactical vest. She is accused of climbing into the Capitol through a broken window, with the sword strapped to her leg.

Lindsey, who bought herself and a friend plane tickets to the Capitol to see Trump speak and said on social media that "boss man called for us to be there," reportedly told FBI officials that the weapons in her possession, which she grabbed from her hotel room after watching former President Donald Trump rally on the National Mall, were just "tools."

She faces charges of disorderly conduct and possessing a dangerous weapon inside the Capitol.

Over 1,400 people have so far been arrested in connection with the Capitol insurrection — the largest number of people arrested for a single criminal offense in American history. Many have already been convicted or taken plea deals, although a recent Supreme Court decision limited the ability of prosecutors to charge them with obstruction of Congress.

Charges range from misdemeanors like disorderly conduct and unlawful picketing, to a handful accused of violent felonies like assaulting police officers. The leaders of the far-right groups the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers, who were heavily involved in the more violent attacks on the Capitol, were convicted of seditious conspiracy.
