According to the CDC, here are things to help stay cool in the heat.

Wear appropriate clothing.

Choose lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

Stay cool indoors.

  • Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible.
  • If your home does not have air conditioning, go to the shopping mall or public library—even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back into the heat.
  • Call your local health department to see if there are any heat-relief shelters in your area.
  • Use your stove and oven less to maintain a cooler temperature in your home.
  • Take a cool shower or bath to cool off.

Don't rely on electric fans‎

Electric fans may provide comfort, but when the temperature is in the high 90s, they will not prevent heat-related illness, according to the CDC. Air conditioning is the strongest protective factor against heat-related illness. Exposure to air conditioning for even a few hours a day will reduce the risk for heat-related illness.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of fluid!, During hot weather you will need to increase your fluid intake, regardless of your activity level. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink. CDC says, working in a hot environment pace yourself. Get into a cool area or at least in the shade, and rest, especially if you become lightheaded, confused, weak, or faint.
