DID you know that when it comes to your wooden spoons, you need to deep clean them and not just stick them in a dishwasher?

A woman decided to soak her wooden utensils in boiling water and was horrified by the gunk that came out of them.

TikTok user Karli, who posts under @kar.hawkinspyles, wrote: “I can’t believe I didn’t know you are supposed to deep clean your wooden utensils.”

In her video, she showed how her wooden spoons looked fairly clean after she had washed them up.

However, she decided to soak them in boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes to see how clean they really were.

After just two minutes, Karli was shocked to see the water start to change colour and bits coming off her spoons.

She wrote: “I am not well! I was using these everyday for MONTHS.”

At the end of the soaking, she removed the spoons and showed how the water was filthy.

Not only did it have a yellowy tinge, but there was also an oily scum around the edge of the bowl.

Karli added: “I am DISGUSTED i will be doing this at least once a month now.

“They look so much better now but I might do a round two.”

Many people were equally shocked when they saw the clip.

One said: “I just wash them in the dishwasher, you telling me that’s not enough?”

Another added: “Should I even bother doing this with my family’s 15 year old wooden sauce spoons.”

A third commented: “I love tips that are eye opening.”

However, some people questioned her methods, with one saying: “You don’t boil them, it takes off the protectant layer.”

Karli replied: “I just read a whole article on how to care for them and you’re right!

“I think mine needed this but it says washing with baking soda and vinegar once in a while is better!”
