8/7/2024: Clearing out, but heavy rain returns Friday
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
The heaviest rain from overnight has drifted south and died down. Up north, many saw clearing skies as the sun began to rise - see the below picture of Glens Falls. Meanwhile, showers will linger through much of the morning south of Albany - see the below picture of Germantown.
Eventually, those down in the Catskills, Mid- Hudson, Taconics, and Berkshires will get their sunshine too - it just might not be until later in the afternoon. Expect highs in the mid to upper 70's with low humidity.
Tomorrow starts out great, with sunshine in the morning and into the early afternoon. But by the evening, moisture surging up from Tropical Storm Debby will begin to bring us periods of steady, heavy rain that will last through Friday and perhaps into Saturday morning.
The center of the storm will stay well to our south, so winds aren't a major concern - instead, 2-4 inches of rain may fall across a wide swath of our area, with a few isolated locations seeing even higher totals. It's far less than the 10, 20, or 30 inches of rain this storm has brought to parts the southeastern states - but it's certainly enough to lead to flash flooding locally.
The heaviest rain should exit the area Saturday morning -the rest of that day looks nice, with highs near 80 and manageable levels of humidity - but it may still be awfully wet out there after all the rain, and rivers, creaks, and streams will still be running high.
Only a chance couple showers on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday look great, with morning lows in the upper 50's and afternoon highs in the upper 70's.
