Former Pottawatomie County Deputy arrested

SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) — A former Pottawatomie County Deputy is in jail for allegedly harboring a fugitive.

​Alicia Briones was arrested Tuesday after a months long investigation.

As Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth says, they were suspicious of Briones long before the investigation started.

"A little while back we started seeing some inconsistencies and there were some issues kind of on our radar," Sheriff Booth said. "Sometimes, you know, things happen, there might be a good reason for something, but when red flags go up, you got to check it out."

Briones is accused of harboring fugitive Emanuel McClain, who had a warrant out for his arrest in Pottawatomie County.

"We actually changed positions for this deputy, hoping things would calm down, cool things off for a little bit," Sheriff Booth said.

However, the position change didn't alter Briones' actions.

Court documents show Briones had constant communication with McClain after she said she hasn't talked to him "in a long time."

Court documents also say Briones told McClain about what vehicles undercover agents were driving, as well as giving him a tip about a search warrant where he was staying.

"Our suspicions were about things that were going on, was even worse than what we thought as the investigation continued," Sheriff Booth said.

Court documents say Briones allowed McClain to stay at her house for 20 days before he was found and arrested on the street.

During the investigation, Briones was fired from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office for an unrelated incident.

Sheriff Booth says he expects better from his team and was disappointed when he learned all the details from the investigation.

"When you're wearing a badge, you're held at a higher standard," Sheriff Booth said.

Briones is being held in the Pottawatomie County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
