London bracing for race riots after rumours spread about violent disorder
The Mayor of London has urged people to ‘check on their friends and neighbours’ in the wake of the riots, with more unrest expected in London tonight.
It comes as Britain is bracing itself for another day of violent unrest with nearly 30 potential rallies planned, some by racist Telegram channels.
Sadiq Khan posted on X: ‘I’m aware of reports that far-right groups are now planning to target locations in London and I want to be very clear to anyone thinking of spreading hatred and fear in our city: if you break the law, action will be taken against you.
‘Acts of violence and disorder on the streets of London will not be tolerated and, if you commit a crime, you will be arrested and face the full force of the law… In London, we have zero-tolerance for racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism or any form of hate and we pride ourselves on being open, diverse and welcoming of all faiths and backgrounds.
‘It’s woven deeply into the fabric of our great city and is why those who seek to divide our communities will never win.’
For more than a week now, far-right agitators have torn through the streets of major towns and cities, with groups sharing a hitlist of immigration centres to attack.
With 6,000 riot officers mobilised, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said yesterday rioters will be handed ‘substantive’ prison sentences ‘before the end of this week’.
