Japan's share benchmark bounces higher as markets resume climbs after calm day on Wall Street
Shares have gained in Asia, with Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index falling shortly after the open and then bouncing as it climbed higher. The Nikkei index gained more than 3% at times during the morning. On Tuesday, calm returned after a bout of volatility that brought the worst drops in years for many world markets. China reported that its exports climbed 7% in July from a year earlier, much less than most forecasts. The S&P 500 rose 1% Tuesday to break a brutal three-day losing streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.8%, and the Nasdaq composite added 1%.
