$1M Worth of Cocaine Washes Up on Florida Beach After Hurricane Debby

0

The Atlantic hurricane season is fully underway, and residents across the state of Florida braced for the arrival of Hurricane Debby and whatever destruction it brought with it. It turns out the storm also produced some surprising finds at the seashore.

Acting chief patrol agent of the U.S. Border Patrol's Miami sector Samuel Briggs II explained what happened in a statement.

"Hurricane Debby blew 25 packages of cocaine (70 pounds) onto a beach in the Florida Keys," he said. "[A] Good Samaritan discovered the drugs and contacted authorities. U.S. Border Patrol seized the drugs, which have a street value of over $1 million dollars."

Photos of the evidence show bricks packaged in brown paper and emblazoned with a red butterfly-like logo.

It's not the first time an illicit surprise has washed up on Florida beaches. In June, divers in Key West found bricks of cocaine branded with fake Nike logos on the ocean floor. In May, another beachgoer in the Keys found 65 pounds of cocaine, per The Miami Herald. And in 2023, nearly 150 pounds of cocaine Last year, nearly 150 pounds washed up on Big Pine Key, and in August 2023, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor reeled in 70 pounds of cocaine on a family fishing trip.

In a world where Cocaine Bear exists, it's only a matter of time before we witness real-life cocaine fish.
