How Triston Casas’ Eventual Return Affects Red Sox Dominic Smith

As Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas continues his rehab assignment in Triple-A Worcester, Dominic Smith continues to produce for Boston at the major league level.

Smith is batting .238 with six home runs, 19 doubles and 34 RBIs in 75 games this season. The 29-year-old veteran talked about how important it is to block out the noise as Casas works his way back to the Red Sox, which could lead to Smith not playing every day on Tuesday's episode of NESN's "310 To Left."

"It's something that takes time to learn," Smith told Tom Caron and Alex Speier during the episode. "You're not just going to learn when you're 18 years old, fresh at the minor league complex, starting your professional career.

"But I think over the years, you just learn how the business works. You understand certain things and the stuff that you can't control, so if you sit there and worry about that stuff, it's going to drive you crazy. It's going to take away from your performance. You're not going to be able to sleep at night some nights."

Smith continued: "I think for me, I just love every day. I've been blessed and thankful to put on this uniform and I just can't worry about that. ... I just think taking it one day at a time. Enjoying each moment this summer has just been a blast."
