Team GB star, 27, reveals he’s back at work on Friday after juggling full-time job with Olympics 2024 dream

TEAM GB athlete Jacob Fincham-Dukes revealed he will return to work his full-time job on FRIDAY after finishing fifth in the men’s long jump at the Olympics.

The Harrogate-born star, 27, surpassed expectations by reaching Tuesday’s final.

He then showed qualification was no fluke by jumping 8.14 metres – just six centimetres off his personal best – to earn fifth place.

The reigning British champion was 20 centimetres adrift of a medal, while Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou took gold with a huge 8.48m.

And Fincham-Dukes’ fifth place becomes an even more impressive feat when you consider he has trained for the Olympics while holding down a job in Texas where he is based.

According to the Harrogate Advertiser, his day-to-day practice is in “health and safety compliance” for a company based in Texas.

And he will go back to that role just 72 HOURS after competing with the best in the world at the Olympic Games.

Speaking to the BBC after his stellar performance in Paris, he said: “I really hope I’ve done myself justice because I work full-time, I’m back at work on Friday.

“So I’m carrying a lot of extra stress that these guys don’t have to deal with.

“I’ve carried myself tremendously well this year. Fourth at Europeans, fifth at the Olympics.

“I wasn’t suppose to finish fifth on ranking there so I think I’ve done myself proud.”

Team GB have picked up three medals on the track so far in Paris.

They won bronze in the 4×400 metre relay, before Keely Hodgkinson stormed to gold in the 800 metres on Monday night.

On Tuesday, Josh Kerr narrowly came up short in his pursuit of 1500-metre gold but still claimed a thrilling silver.
