'Vote stealing in plain sight': Ethics expert sounds the alarm on Georgia election board

Former Obama White House ethics czar and impeachment lawyer Norm Eisen sounded the alarm about the Georgia Election Board changing the rules to give Donald Trump a boost.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday that the Trump-endorsed board is trying to change rules for the certification of the results.

During Trump's rally on Saturday, he specifically named three people, gushing with praise about them: Janelle King, Janice Johnston, and Rick Jeffares, who are all members of the board.

The report explained that the three officials were involved in a "possibly illegal meeting where they approved two new election rules suggested to them directly by Georgia GOP chair Josh McKoon, who was also praised by Trump" during his rally on Saturday.

The Trump-backed majority will consider 15 changes, one of which would require "reasonable inquiry" before any county approves an election.

An unnamed Republican source who is not on Team Trump told the AJC that having state election board members attend such high-profile campaign events is unusual.

"There's nothing normal about it. In fact, it was disheartening," said the Republican.

Fair Fight Action communications director Max Flugrath posted videos from a press conference Tuesday in which Georgia state Rep. Inga Willis (D) explained the impact the move would have on voters.

Willis said it was a "modern form of age-old voter suppression tactics, posing as administrative rule changes. MAGA may have hijacked the Republican Party, but they will not hijack our elections process."

She explained that it's well understood that the 2024 election will come down to battleground states, which Georgia has become after the 2020 election. Willis said it's clear that the state matters because "with less than 100 days, we're seeing all of these attempts to hijack our process."

"Folks, the autocrats and election subverts are trying to steal votes in plain sight," Eisen warned.
