'A threat to society': Trump surrogate melts down over free tampons after Tim Walz VP pick

Karoline Leavitt, the press spokesperson for Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, reacted to the decision to pick Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as the Democratic vice presidential candidate by ranting about the dangers of tampons in men's bathrooms.

Following Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' decision to pick Walz as her running mate, Leavitt responded in a Fox News interview on Tuesday.

Fox's host Gillian Turner pointed out that Walz had called former President Donald Trump a "danger" to women's health and society.

"I think the real danger to society, the real threats to democracy, are Kamala Harris and Tim Walz again, who support defunding the police," Leavitt countered.

She also claimed that Walz, who supports abortion rights, was a more significant "threat" to women's health than Trump.

"As a woman, I think there's no greater threat to our health than leaders who support gender transition surgeries for young minors, who support putting tampons in men's bathrooms in public schools," Leavitt ranted. "Those are radical policies that Tim Walz supports."

"He supports men in women's sports," she added. "That's a real threat to women and girls across this country."

"These people are radical, and again, we will make sure every American understands just how radical they are."

As governor, Walz signed a bill requiring menstrual products to be stocked free of charge in public school bathrooms.

Democrats argued at the time that the bill would prevent students from missing school due to "period poverty."

"One out of every ten menstruating youth miss school during their menstruating cycle due to lack of access to menstrual products and resources," state Rep. Sandra Feist (D) told the House Education Finance Committee.
