The secrets of Cyprus and its stars
August is a starry month. With the impressive Perseids Meteor Showers happening above us and even more bright events happening on land, there’s lots to take in. A unique event is coming up this Thursday at the Cyprus Planetarium with projections, talks and stargazing.
The event will first take visitors on a brief journey back in time to discover the secrets of the creation of the island of Cyprus. The worlds of history, science and the universe will collide in one evening, entertaining all those curious to explore what lies beyond what meets the eye.
The journey begins at 7.30pm with a dome projection of Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival. Half an hour later, an enlightening lecture by naturalist and president of the Association for the Protection of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of Cyprus George Constantinou will take place, revealing to visitors the fascinating story of the ‘Creation of the island of Cyprus, the elephants, the hippos, and the Neolithic people’. All held at the Sky Amphitheatre.
Then the evening will continue with live stargazing at the amphitheatre from 9pm onwards where guests can enjoy the summer night sky and if lucky, observe the phenomenon of the Perseids Meteor Showers, which happens around this time of the year.
