Opelousas man accidentally shot by teenager
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A man was accidentally shot by a teenage boy in Opelousas Monday night, authorities said.
Opelousas Police responded just after 6 p.m. Monday to a shooting in the 500 block of Sapphire Street, where officers found a 21-year-old male suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg.
Police said a 16-year-old boy was in possession of a firearm and accidentally shot the 21-year-old. Officers apprehended the alleged shooter a block away from where the incident occurred.
The identities of the shooter and the victim were not released.
The juvenile has been charged with negligent injury and possession of a handgun by a juvenile. The injury sustained by the 21-year-old is believed to be non-life-threatening.
