Man arrested in connection with 2023 Jeanerette murder

JEANERETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A man wanted since a June 2023 murder in Jeanerette has been found and arrested, authorities said.
Jason Joe Jr., 19, is charged with principal to first degree murder in connection with the killing of Schronte Hopes on June 16, 2023. Previously, Jeremy Smith Jr., 18, was charged with first degree murder in connection with the incident.
Jeanerette Police Chief Dusty Vallot said Joe was apprehended without incident with the help of Lafayette Police and is being held in the Iberia Parish Jail without bond.
Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues, police said.
