These 6 factors led Kamala Harris to pick Tim Walz: report
Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her vice-presidential nominee in a move that surprised some political observers given how important Pennsylvania will be in the upcoming election.
However, Reuters' Nandita Bose reports that there were essentially six factors that led Harris to pick Walz over Shapiro.
The top reason, according to Bose, is that Walz as Minnesota's governor has a "strong record of accomplishment for middle class families that models what Harris wants to do nationally (child tax-credit, junk fee ban, paid leave, gun safety, codifying Roe)."
Bose reports that Harris was also intrigued by Walz's personal biography, which included decades serving in the National Guard and working as a high-school teacher and football coach.

Harris also reportedly views Walz as an "effective messenger" who will "take the fight to Trump-Vance," as evidenced by the way his criticisms of Vance as "weird" have become standard Democratic talking points.
Other factors are that Walz won in a district that overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and that Harris believes she can have a "strong personal rapport" with Walz and has "confidence in his ability to be a governing partner."
